Since his debut in 1938, Superman has had various vehicles in DC comic lore, though none have lasted for long. The most famous is his Supermobile – a personal aircraft that mimicked some of his powers for occasions where his natural abilities had been stripped away.
Batman also created a car for the Man of Steel as a gift – basically a muscle car with his logo on the front. Now, Superman’s forgotten ride is getting a major modern upgrade that fans will be excited to see.
Superman Officially Gets His Own Batmobile
In a newly released preview of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #50, the titular heroes enter a dream dimension to discover why no-one on Earth is able to sleep. After Zatanna creates a portal, Batman passes out, only to wake up in a superfast car driven by Superman.
Batman’s response is pitch perfect, accusing Superman of being jealous of the Batmobile. However, Superman shoots back that he’s loved cars ever since his childhood, learning about engines on the Kent family farm. The new Supermobile is a retro delight, with tail fins mimicking Superman’s cape and a fiery exhaust that makes the Batmobile look slow.
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #50 comes from Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Adrián Gutiérrez, Luis Guerrero, Tamra Bonvillain and Steve Wands.
Sadly, Supes doesn’t get to keep the car for long, as it’s totaled by the Doom Patrol. However, given this reality isn’t exactly governed by normal physics, it’s possible Superman could simply summon his ride again later in the story.
Batman and Superman’s Latest Adventure Is Designed to Deliver the Impossible
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #50 is an anniversary celebration for the new series, which has done incredibly well in the context of today’s comic market, where many series only achieve a single five-issue arc before getting canceled.
The issue brings back original series artist and modern master Dan Mora for its ‘Dream Team’ story. The concept of the story seems custom-built to allow Dan Mora to draw anything and everything he wants, while also calling back to the arcs so far (the Doom Patrol return following multiple cameos in this series so far.)
Superman fans should strap in for this anniversary celebration, which is likely to introduce far more extreme imagery than just Superman getting his own Batmobile. And because the Dream Dimension is magical in nature, what follows might not be nearly as welcome to Superman as his new Supermobile.
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #50 is coming April 1 from DC Comics.
