Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday stressed that the government will come back to power, and laid down the Vision Tamil Nadu 2030, which highlighted the goals for his government across 14 key focus sectors/departments such as health, education, industrial development, urban planning and others.
In line with its earlier goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030, the CM said that they will focus on a ‘Make in Tamil Nadu’ initiative, to bring industrial activity to every district .“Tamil Nadu will emerge as India’s economic powerhouse. To achieve this, our target is to attract ₹18 lakh crore in investments, create 50 lakh jobs for youth, and increase Tamil Nadu’s exports to $120 billion,” CM Stalin said, while listing out department-wise goals.
The Industries department will also work toward a five-fold growth in electronics exports by 2030, and we will also double IT exports from ₹2.5 lakh crore to ₹6 lakh crore and create 2 lakh new IT jobs, the CM said. “The textile industry will be modernised, and the livelihoods of 35,000 workers in Tiruppur and Karur will be secured,” he added.
2030 goals
Interestingly, the various 2030 goals for TN highlighted by the CM also includes a plan to develop a Large Language Model (LLM) specifically for the Tamil language. Housing for all, expanded medical insurance coverage, Mental health counselling centres in every district, and Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, are among other goals set.
CM Stalin also said that to ensure that all the goals mentioned in Vision Tamil Nadu 2030 become a reality, the State will also prepare district-wise action plans. “By implementing all these initiatives, we will transform Tamil Nadu into a $1 trillion economy by 2030,” he said. “The Dravidian development model will continue,” he added.
In the same event on Friday, which brought together all the state ministers, bureaucrats, industrialists and others, finance minister Thangam Thennarasu said that of the 550 initiatives/schemes put forward by the DMK when it came to power in 2021, they have implemented around 206 of them and 170 is in progress, making it a 75 per cent conversion. 32 schemes are under consideration by the State, 33 are with the Union Government for their action, 44 have not been taken up, and 20 were found to be not feasible, he added.
The event also unveiled the results of the Vision 2030 survey that mapped the most well-received initiatives of the government. Around 50,000 government staff undertook the exercise to understand the dreams of the State citizens, which saw responses by over 1.8 crore people.
34 per cent (the highest) of the respondents voted for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam (Women monthly cash transfer scheme) to be the most impactful. The free bus travel for women was the second-most popular one, followed by initiatives for women self-help groups.
