Tarantino has also written some great movies that he didn’t direct, one of them being From Dusk till Dawn. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, From Dusk till Dawn stars George Clooney and Tarantino as brothers and thieves Seth and Richie Gecko. Although it received mixed reviews during its release, From Dusk till Dawn is now a cult classic, and it spawned a media franchise.
In addition to two more movies and a video game, From Dusk till Dawn also got a TV show, which is as good as the movie, but, unfortunately, it’s now very tricky to watch.
From Dusk Till Dawn Has An Underrated TV Show That Lasted 3 Seasons
From Dusk till Dawn follows the Gecko brothers, who, while on the run, kidnap widowed pastor Jacob Fuller (Harvey Keitel) and his teenage children Kate (Juliette Lewis) and Scott (Ernest Liu). The Geckos force them to drive their motor home to México, and they make a stop at an all-night strip club in the desert, where they’re supposed to meet one of their contacts.
The Geckos and the Fullers enter the club, but the night takes a wild turn after a dance by the club’s star stripper, Santanico Pandemonium (Salma Hayek). She and the rest of the strippers and employees at the club turn out to be vampires, and so the Geckos and Fullers have to find a way to survive the night.
Almost twenty years after From Dusk till Dawn’s release, it got a TV show adaptation developed by Robert Rodriguez. Simply titled From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, it follows the same premise and characters as the movie, but with a completely different cast. From Dusk till Dawn: The Series was better received than the movie, and it expanded on the characters’ stories and the mythology of the vampires.
Despite its success, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series ended after just three seasons, though it must be pointed out that it wasn’t officially canceled, and, instead, the actors were reportedly released from their contracts.
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series Isn’t Streaming Anywhere
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series premiered on El Rey Network, a cable and satellite network founded by Robert Rodriguez. From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series aired in its entirety on El Rey Network, and outside the US, the show was released on Netflix and marketed as a Netflix original series.
El Rey Network ceased operations as a TV outlet in 2020, but continues as a streaming network.
However, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series was removed from Netflix in November 2022, due to international streaming licensing agreements expiring. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series hasn’t been picked up by any other streaming platform, but it’s available to buy on Fandango at Home.
10 Years Later, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series’ Cast Is Still Impressive
As mentioned above, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series didn’t have its original actors back (with only Danny Trejo returning as a different character), but it had a very impressive cast. Playing Seth and Richie Gecko in the series were D. J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz, the former now best known as Super Hero Pedro from both Shazam! movies, and the latter as K.O. Kelly from Riverdale.
The Fullers were played by Robert Patrick, Madison Davenport, and Brandon Soo Hoo, with Patrick being a well-known actor in the sci-fi genre, Davenport known for playing Ethel in Shameless, and Soo Hoo known for playing Tran in Tropic Thunder.
Santanico Pandemonium was played by Eiza González, known for her roles in Baby Driver, Alita: Battle Angel, Bloodshot, and 3 Body Problem. Rounding up the cast of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series are Jesse Garcia, Wilmer Valderrama, Jake Busey, Don Johnson, and Esai Morales.
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series is worth watching, especially for those who enjoyed Quentin Tarantino’s movie, and, hopefully, it will return to streaming in the near future.
