The Apothecary Diaries’ Cast Gets Official New Looks Before Season 3

The Apothecary Diaries is building anticipation for its next chapter with a beautiful new visual showcasing its core cast in elegant summer attire. Released ahead of the franchise’s first-ever major live event, the illustration offers fans a refreshed look at familiar faces while signaling the series’ continued momentum heading into its highly anticipated third season.

Set to return in October 2026 as part of the Fall anime lineup, Season 3 of The Apothecary Diaries is already shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest releases. With a theatrical film also slated for December and a large-scale fan event arriving in August, per The Apothecary Diaries official website, the series is expanding far beyond the screen, giving audiences multiple ways to engage with its evolving story.

A Summer Event Brings Fresh Style to The Apothecary Diaries’ Fan-Favorite Characters

The newly revealed visual was created to promote the “Summer Garden Party 2026,” a special event scheduled for August 15 at Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall. Designed with a seasonal theme, the artwork places Maomao and Jinshi at the center, surrounded by key characters in coordinated white and gold outfits that evoke a light, celebratory atmosphere.

Characters featured include Gao Shun, Gyokuyou, Xiaolan, Ba Sen, Zicui, and Luo Ban, all dressed in soft, flowing garments that contrast their usual court attire. The visual leans into a refined aesthetic, emphasizing elegance over formality, while still preserving each character’s recognizable personality through subtle design choices and expressions.

The event itself will feature two performances on the same day, with a daytime show beginning at 14:00 and an evening show at 18:30. Voice actors Aoi Yuki (Maomao) and Takeo Otsuka (Jinshi) are confirmed to attend, with additional cast members expected to appear. Ticket lottery applications were made available through the anime’s official website, building excitement among fans months in advance.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 Expands the Story Beyond the Palace

Narratively, The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 will move the story into new territory following the dramatic conclusion of the Shi Clan rebellion in Season 2. That storyline, which had been developing since the first season, culminated in a large-scale conflict that exposed political conspiracies involving Suirei and Loulan, ultimately reshaping the power dynamics within the imperial court.

With his true identity now revealed, Jinshi can no longer operate within the Rear Palace under the guise of a eunuch. Instead, he must embrace his responsibilities as a member of the royal family. Meanwhile, Maomao has returned to the Verdigris House, continuing her work as an apothecary while remaining entangled in the empire’s mysteries from afar.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 Returns With New Look at the Series’ Most Controversial Character

The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 teases the series’ most controversial character in a brand-new art piece ahead of the anime’s return this year.

According to early promotional material, the upcoming season will adapt the fifth volume of Natsu Hyuga’s original light novel series. The story shifts to the northern farming regions, where unusual incidents begin to unfold. This change in setting marks another departure from the palace-centric intrigue, introducing new challenges while maintaining the series’ signature blend of mystery and political drama.

Season 3 will be split into two cours, with the first premiering in October 2026 and the second arriving in Spring 2027 after a short winter break. In addition, The Apothecary Diaries franchise’s first feature film, an original story written by the author, is scheduled for release in December 2026 in Japanese theaters, further expanding the world fans have come to love.
