The Boys Season 5’s Supernatural Reunion Is Doing Dean & Castiel In Reverse

Prime Video has released the final trailer for The Boys season 5, and it depicts a reunion between two beloved Supernatural actors, but with reversed roles. Based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys offers a different side to stories about superheroes. The superhero show is dark and sometimes disturbing, but its take on the terrible aspects of supes is refreshing.

Since the premiere of its first season in 2019, The Boys has cut through superhero fatigue by being diabolical and bravely pushing the boundaries of stories about humans with special abilities. With The Boys’ popularity, it’s not surprising that two spinoff series, Gen V and The Boys Presents: Diabolical, were created. And thankfully, they were just as good and sometimes, even better than their parent show.

Six years later, The Boys is coming to a close with its fifth and final season, which, according to the trailer, will be just as action-packed, gritty, and peppered with even more shocking scenes the show has become famous for. For fans of Supernatural, The Boys season 5 might be its best installment due to the inclusion of Misha Collins in its cast.

Misha Collins’ character, Castiel, was added to the cast of Supernatural in the show’s fourth season, and it was all the better for it. Following Dean’s death in the finale of Supernatural season 3, Castiel was sent down to resurrect the older Winchester brother. Dean and Sam’s dynamic was the backbone of Supernatural, but Castiel’s presence was a breath of fresh air.

Although Dean has some admirable qualities: he is a quick thinker who is strategically and physically strong, he is still a human whose powers can’t match Castiel’s supernatural strength and angelic abilities. When it comes down to it, Castiel can absolutely wipe the floor with Dean.

In The Boys season 5 trailer, the power dynamic between the two has shifted. Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy is one of the most powerful supes in The Boys, and taking him down isn’t something that can easily be done. The trailer shows Soldier Boy choking the helpless and still unknown character Collins plays, further proving that this time, he might be the weaker of the two.

Are Jared Padalecki & Misha Collins Playing A Couple In The Boys Season 5?

Misha Collins & Jared Padalecki’s Roles In The Boys Season 5 Is Unkown

The footage from The Boys season five trailer offers some interesting information. For one, Homelander is seeking to be immortal, Kimiko is talking, and Billy Butcher’s team might finally have a chance of defeating the supes. However, the most intriguing scene in the trailer is the one depicting the three Supernatural alums in one shot.

The scene in particular shows Soldier Boy choking Collins’ character while Jared Padalecki stands by looking concerned. This raises a question about their relationship in the upcoming season, particularly because it looks like the altercation took place in Padalecki’s character’s house. The overall demeanor of Collins and Padalecki’s characters in the trailer hints at them being a couple.

With Eric Kripke, the creator of Supernatural, at the helm of The Boys, it doesn’t come from the left field that Ackles, Collins, and Padalecki have reunited, more so because of how well their characters in the CW fantasy show complemented each other. However, it’s unclear what roles the two will play as they only appear briefly during The Boys’ season 5 trailer.

Collin and Padalecki’s relationship might prove to be one of the best parts of the upcoming installment of The Boys, especially if it’s nothing like their dynamic in Supernatural. The Boys season 5 is set to release its first two episodes on April 8, 2026, and will return to weekly episode drops after that.
