The show did little to damage that reputation, offering us a new look at those first two games, with some highly memorable additional storylines along the way. Given that the developer is currently all guns blazing on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, it seemed like we were going to be waiting for a good while longer to see Part 3, if we ever got to see it at all.
Happily, that may not be the case, and recent comments from the man in charge of it all have sent fans into a frenzy, and it’s easy to see why.
The Last Of Us Part 3 Is Headed Our Way
As first reported by GAMINGbible, Naughty Dog head honcho Neil Druckmann shared a post of an early sketch for Joel and Ellie, reminiscing about the series’ past and future. With it, he included what, at first, seemed to be an innocuous caption, but which could be hiding the first green shoots of hope.
“Cleaning out the garage today and stumbled on my original sketches from 2003 for a game pitch about a man, his surrogate daughter, and a trek across a broken America. Been a wild journey. Grateful for every part of it, especially the few stops that remain on the road ahead.”
It’s that final part of the statement that really puts the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons, with the veiled reference to “stops that remain” serving as more than enough to set tongues wagging on the potential threequel.
The Last Of Us Fans, Get Ready For The Road Ahead
The fact remains that The Last of Us remains a hugely popular original work, and Naughty Dog, PlayStation and everyone else involved would be foolish to leave it behind entirely. Intergalactic looks great, but it’s an entirely unproven concept, and the release of a third game in the series would effectively serve as a license to print money.
As a fan, fingers crossed that they listen to reason, and their huge consumer base, and get to work on a third part for The Last of Us (assuming they haven’t already), even if it does mean that we have to get a PlayStation 6 to play it.

The Last Of Us
The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic action-adventure franchise created by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, developed by Naughty Dog. It centers around survivors in a world ravaged by a fungal infection turning humans into aggressive creatures. The story primarily follows Joel and Ellie in the original game, while the sequel adds new characters like Abby. The franchise includes video games, a television series, comics, and other media.
