The MCU series is an anthology that features entirely new characters, distancing itself from the monarchy or the Black Panther title. Each episode follows the Hatut Zeraze, later renamed the War Dogs, as they go out into the world to spy on other nations and acquire stolen Vibranium tech.
Eyes of Wakanda episode 1 takes place in Minoan Crete in 1260 BCE. The second episode takes the Wakandans to the Trojan War in 1200 BCE. Episode 3 jumps forward over two millennia to K’un-Lun, China, in 1400 CE. The finale takes place in Adwa, Ethiopia, in 1896 CE. The MCU animated series is packed with subterfuge, political conflicts, and violence.
The animated TV show is not a must-watch because it’s a masterpiece. As great as the animated show is, it falls short of that title. It has some small flaws. Instead, it’s a must-watch because it offers high entertainment value, incredible animation, and insight into the history of the most fascinating place on Earth in the MCU.
Eyes Of Wakanda Is Set In The Sacred Universe & Has MCU Connections
Most Marvel Cinematic Universe animated series take place in an alternate universe, meaning they aren’t beholden to the canon of the sacred universe. However, it also means that they don’t provide valuable context or insight about the main storyline of the MCU. Eyes of Wakanda is one of the only animated series set on Earth-616, meaning it has direct connections.
The 2025 series gives fans a better understanding of how the Wakandans relate to the world around them and the high cost of protecting the nation’s secrets. It expands our understanding of the War Dogs, who are still a major part of the MCU. The show also provides more information about the many ways vibranium can be used.
This will be extremely valuable information going into Avengers: Doomsday, since a teaser confirmed the Wakandans will work with The Fantastic Four in the upcoming movie. Additionally, Eyes of Wakanda offers more backstory on one of the Defenders. This would be fun to have before Avengers: Doomsday because rumors suggest that the team will appear in the Avengers film.
Eyes Of Wakanda Provides Top-Notch Worldbuilding & Entertainment
Aside from the MCU connections, Eyes of Wakanda is just a really entertaining show with compelling characters and fantastic action sequences. The choreography from the fight scenes is superb. It’s fun to see how Wakanda has secretly influenced major events in history, especially since they keep their advanced technology a secret.
Even though the audience knows nothing about the Eyes of Wakanda characters going into each episode, it’s easy to invest in them. The show also introduces a Killmonger predecessor who is truly more evil and daunting, setting up a great Black Panther 3 villain. There’s just so much to love about Eyes of Wakanda, and everyone needs to watch it.
