This left the door open for multiple storylines to be followed on in episode 2. Monarch needs a new boss, Cate must feel regret for what she did, Lee and Keiko now have more time to interact in the present, and so on. Episode 2 does a great job of pushing forward the stories in the past and present, introducing new Monsterverse lore.
Titan X’s Flashback Debut Explained
As Bill goes away to work on his own for a little bit near the start of the episode, Keiko and Lee spend the rest of episode 2’s flashback storyline together, discovering what secrets lie in that mysterious village. For most of the episode, the characters slowly dive deeper into the location’s lore and what Titan X means for the village’s inhabitants.
However, the kaiju only shows up at the very end of the hour. After several scarabs start rising from the ground and running towards the sea, with Lee and Keiko desperately trying to outrun them and find cover, Titan X emerges. It is clear that the kaiju is trying to protect the creatures, as Titan X attempts to hit the humans with one of his tentacles.
The Monsterverse gets an exciting new chapter as Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 builds upon the first season’s storylines in a heartfelt way.
While the monster manages to destroy the hut they were in, Lee and Keiko are not shown to have sustained any injuries, as the screen cuts to black. The scarabs were running towards Titan X, establishing some kind of deep connection between them. This comes after the locals put on a festival to summon the creature.
Since the villagers had stopped believing in the myth, there is no hard answer to what Titan X could do next. What the flashback storyline confirms for sure is that there is some kind of key connection between the Titan and the scarabs, and that is precisely what Lee exploits in the present-day storyline.
Why Did Titan X Turn Around Because Of The Scarab?
At the end of episode 1, we saw the scarab taking a ride on the Monarch team’s helicopter. Episode 2 sees Cate go head-to-head with the creature and live to tell the tale. Before that, the scarab had easily killed a nurse and left a trail of blood on the Monarch ship. These things may be somewhat small, but they are extremely dangerous.
That only enhances Shaw’s plan of using it as bait to lure Titan X away. After the scarab emits a powerful sound, Titan X quickly turns towards the Monarch ship at high speed. Given how the past storyline saw hundreds of scarabs running towards Titan X and almost trampling over Lee and Keiko to get there, as well as how the monster protected the scarabs, Titan X going after the lone beast tracks.
Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Cast & Returning Character Guide
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 is finally here, complete with a stacked cast of familiar and new faces alike for the AppleTV show.
While we don’t yet know exactly what role each beast plays in the other’s life, it is clear that Titan X and the scarabs need one another for something. Lee uses that to draw Titan X on a boat and evades getting killed by throwing the scarab into the water before the kaiju catches up to him.
That shows that Titan X does not attack unsolicited, but it will defend the scarabs if needed. If the beast wanted, it could have easily gone after Lee, but the Titan’s sole goal was to get to the scarab that had been separated from the rest. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 2, takes a big step towards understanding how the show’s new main threat works.
What’s Going On With Keiko And Lee In The Past?
Despite being married to Billy, Keiko harbors feelings for Lee. After they kissed in season 1, those feelings resurfaced in an intimate conversation in the season 2 premiere, and have now grown in episode 2. The festival, with all the dancing and drinking, leads to a Keiko and Lee flashback of the two kissing as they bump into one another.
While they don’t kiss again in episode 2, the Apple TV sci-fi series is clearly showing that the two have not put that affair to bed just yet. Since Hiroshi and Keiko have similar situations in their lives, the focus on that in the past could mean that the show not only wants to see how Lee and Keiko’s tension translates to the present-day storyline, but also how the mother-son connection plays out.
Monarch’s New Boss Is Exactly Who It Should Be
After Verdugo’s death at the end of episode one, there were a few paths the sci-fi series could go with Monarch’s leadership position. Out of all the options, promoting Tim to that role was the best one, as it allows the show to put a character who has changed a lot since season 1 in a position that should make him more confident.
Tim has the expertise of being part of the new Monarch and the admiration for the organization’s original mission. While Keiko could take his place, Tim is uniquely suited to this new chapter at Monarch, being able to unite the modern technology aspect of Monarch with a research and defense idea. Whether that is what Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 has in store for the organization remains to be seen.
