Admittedly, the succeeding seasons experienced a significant drop from its freshman year. The Night Agent season 2 was down to 13.9 million, while season 3 only got 8.4 million views — A 59% decrease from its original numbers. Because of this and the fact that Netflix didn’t order season 4 as quickly as its predecessors, there were concerns about whether The Night Agent would return after its junior year. The streamer ended people’s misery by officially ordering a new run for the spy thriller, alongside the announcement of some key details about its story.
The Night Agent Season 4’s Move To LA Sets Up Rose’s Return
Netflix’s show was originally an adaptation of Matthew Quirk’s novel of the same name, as its first season was based on it. As it continued in its subsequent years, however, the show has relied on its creative team to craft Peter’s adventures. Given this, it’s quite difficult to predict what is next for him, especially considering the genre of the show.
That said, Netflix has confirmed that The Night Agent season 4 will be set in Los Angeles, California. Specific plot details beyond that are uncertain at this point, but this is good news for Rose’s return to the series. After spending the rest of The Night Agent season 1 with Peter, as the murder of her aunt and uncle led to their meeting and eventual journey, Netflix brought her back for the show’s sophomore year.
Instead of continuing her solid characterization in season 2, however, the shift in storytelling to Peter’s internal growth made Rose feel more like a plot device than a player. Ultimately, they split up, and she moved back to California to focus on her own, resulting in The Night Agent season 3 not featuring her. With Peter’s next adventure taking him to Los Angeles, it would be a big missed opportunity if they don’t use it as a way to bring back Rose.
The Night Agent Season 3 Proved That Peter Still Wants To Be With Rose
While Rose didn’t have any presence in The Night Agent season 3, it doesn’t mean that the show just totally forgot about her. That would have been a mistake, not to mention unbelievable, considering Peter’s fondness for her. In its latest run, the Netflix show established that he still wants to keep her safe, so while it’s clear that he continues to care for her, he hasn’t reached out. Beyond that, he had also been busy with his new mission.
As The Night Agent season 4 takes him to Los Angeles, Peter might take it as a sign to finally re-establish his connection with her. Otherwise, the story itself of the show’s next run may actually be what brings them back together. Regardless, The Night Agent season 4’s setting naturally lends to their reunion.
Why Bringing Back Rose Makes Sense For The Night Agent Season 4
For what it’s worth, Rose’s absence in The Night Agent season 3 was divisive. A big part of the show’s original appeal was her and Peter’s chemistry. While being in distress and wanting to be saved kicked off the show’s story, season 1 highlighted how capable an individual she is to be his partner as they navigate their predicament. That dynamic had been lost in The Night Agent season 3.
By The Night Agent season 4, bringing her back with a proper story can resurrect that aspect of the project. This is especially important as it is trying to regain the significant number of viewers that it lost between season 1 and 3. Perhaps learning that Rose is back can entice those who weren’t interested in the show without her to give it a try again.
