The OG Resident Evil Just Got A Stunning Modern Remake

Resident Evil is a series that will keep on trucking no matter what. Despite missteps with Resident Evil 6, the series continued to sell, and Capcom reinvented the franchise with RE7.

Now, thanks to a new project highlighted on YouTube, we can revisit the original. Some would say it’s still the best in terms of atmospheric horror, and this is the perfect excuse to play it again.

Resident Evil In Unreal Engine 5 Is Pretty Impressive

It Makes Me Want To Replay The Original

In the video, we’re given a look at the main hallway of the Spencer Mansion, the starting area for the original Resident Evil. While there’s work to be done, this fan project is looking to remake the original game in all its glory.

Here’s the intro by Luli Studio, the folks working on the fan project remake: “Welcome to the Spencer Mansion like you’ve never seen before. A next-gen survival horror concept built in Unreal Engine 5. Experience the classic terrifying atmosphere with modern lighting (Lumen), a dynamic over-the-shoulder camera, and intense zombie gameplay.”

Resident Evil fans are enjoying the footage too, highlighting is potential. One even chimes in that they helped contribute indirectly: “It’s really satisfying to see the community creating worlds and experiences using my free Resident Horror v1 kit. Thank you so much, it turned out really interesting.”

A few folks point out that not everyone has played the original, especially since it’s trapped on specific platforms outside of PC: “I thought it was pointless to have a second remake of the first Resident Evil game. When I remembered that I watched the trailer of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, I was like, ‘Oh what the heck. Bring on another remake of RE1’ This you brought up looks stunning. I don’t think I would mind Capcom doing it too. After all, not everyone plays the very first game.”

If Capcom isn’t releasing a remake anytime soon, as long as some of the rougher edges are smoothed out, this could be a fantastic way to get into it.

Including A Potential Second RE1 Remake

One user even points out that given the leaks, Capcom could stop this project from going forward: “Reminder: If these guys cancels this project, it means Capcom is officially making a REmake 2.0, and there’s the possibility of these guys getting invited to help. I remember the same happened to REmake2.”

In case you weren’t aware, Capcom is reportedly working on multiple remakes, including the original Resident Evil and Code Veronica. It’ll be a wild decade for Resident Evil, and we aren’t even done with Requiem yet.
