A Zelda: The Wind Waker Return? In 2026?
First released back in 2003 for the GameCube, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, once again, followed the story of Link as he embarks on a quest to rescue his sister from the sorcerer Ganon. With the help of Triforce, a sacred wish-granting relic, and Tetra, an incarnation of Princess Zelda, Wind Waker marked a new feature for The Legend of Zelda franchise by setting the game on a group of islands across a vast sea.
Receiving critical acclaim for its visuals, gameplay, level design, and story, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is considered one of Nintendo’s best, but despite a high-definition remaster being released back in 2013 for the Wii U, and launching as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive as part of its Classics Collection, Wind Waker has yet to receive that 4K remaster that we are all waiting for.
Despite Nintendo not giving the fans what we want, it seems as though we may have the next best thing, as a fan-made Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker browser game has taken the internet by storm. Allowing players to sail across Hyrule online, the unofficial project will see you control Link’s boat and hunt for treasure on both mobile and PC.
This Unofficial Game Proves Zelda Fans Are The Best
Created by Robin Payot, the unofficial project already has a dedicated fanbase, with players being able to jump over obstacles, customize Link’s appearance, and most of all, find treasure. As such, many have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the game, and it just goes to show that The Legend of Zelda fans really are the best. “I love the Zelda community,” one fan said simply. “This will be Wind Waker in 2026,” another joked. However, with others worried that the game’s popularity will lead to a DMCA courtesy of Nintendo, it remains to be seen how much longer we will have access to the 2026 version of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. As such, you should quickly download and make the most of it whilst you still can.
