Despite that, it was still quite surprising when news emerged that a fresh story expansion DLC was likely on the way for the game, some ten years after the release of the last one, Blood and Wine.
That said, we have very little in the way of actual concrete detail about what the DLC is actually going to be, other than it’s designed to bridge the gap in story between the third game’s narrative and the upcoming sequel. We also don’t know when exactly we’re going to get it, though recent revelations suggest it could be much sooner than some may have expected.
The Witcher 3 DLC Is Coming Before GTA 6, Mercifully
As first reported by MyNintendoNews, a Polish analyst working at one of the brokerage firms keeping an eye on the activities of CD Projekt Red has predicted a tax return for the DLC could be coming in September, and a release along with it.
“I didn’t include DLC for The Witcher 3 in the model, but like everyone else, I assume that CD Projekt will try to release the DLC before the new GTA release date to avoid this difficult period for other titles. So definitely before November, probably around Q3. I think September is the best window. In the summer, gamers are on vacation, and September seems like a nice “back to school” period. However, things could change. They might come up with the idea to release it in two or three months.”
Now, obviously there is a decent bit of conjecture in there, but the reasoning is sound, and there’s no way the developer would want its release to coincide with the arrival of GTA VI. It would also be a nice tonic for gamers as well, giving them something really exciting to play while they wait for the big Rockstar release.
The Witcher 3 DLC Is Gaming’s Worst Kept Secret
With all of that in mind, it is important to remember that CD Projekt Red is yet to confirm that the DLC even exists, let alone that it’s releasing any time soon. The fact is though that the secret has already been outed by many sources close to the project, and The Witcher 3’s final DLC is as close to 100% confirmed as its possible to be, without the developer saying so.
