Over on X, The Witcher fans are celebrating what they dub one of the best quests in the game, and it was right under their noses. As we wait to see if there’s any meaningful 2026 DLC, there’s one quest that’s live right now that you may haven’t finished yet.

Fans are waxing poetic about The Witcher 3 quest “In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow,” which was added to the next-gen update for the game upon its release. Given that many Witcher 3 fans had set the game aside for years at that point, it was incredibly easy to miss, since it came years after the release of the original game.
As SynthPotato writes: “Why did no one tell me the quest added for Witcher 3’s remaster was somehow one of the best quests in the game? I expected a 5-minute thing to get the Netflix armor, not a whole storyline and dungeon with unique enemies. CDPR seriously always goes the extra mile, insane.”
Fans responded in kind, explaining just how fun this quest really is, and how it came out of nowhere: “It’s way better than I expected it to be. Legitimately one of my favorite quests in the game now,” one user wrote. “I was really surprised by it too, and at the time I had never touched the TV series. I just randomly found it near that large tree in Velen and wondered how id missed it in my hundreds of hours there Its quite a quest, with some real lore too,” another chimes in.

Look For In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow
So what do you need to do to trigger the quest? Well, it’s as simple as heading to the Devil’s Pit in Velen, and taking the quest from a Deacon of the Eternal Fire NP. The suggested level for In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow is 15, so it’s fairly accessible, especially if you’re coming back to your cleared save file.
One fan points out that there’s more to come from The Witcher series if you liked this quest: “And the best part is that the people behind this quest are also working on TW4. I think it was the ‘getting used to the Witcher world’ kind of project for them.”
While we continue to wait for The Witcher 4 and any potential Witcher 3 DLC, you can try In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow now in the latter. It’s the perfect excuse to boot up the classic again.
