Given how both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy have ended, it seems unlikely that Titus Welliver will ever get to play Harry Bosch in the same capacity he once did. However, considering how he has become synonymous with the role because of how brilliantly he captured the character on the small-screen, his return alone is enough to encourage many viewers to continue watching the franchise.
Owing to this, even though his absence as the main character can still be felt, it is hard not to look forward to what the Prime Video franchise has in store for him.
Titus Welliver Will Reprise His Role As Harry Bosch In Ballard Season 2
After briefly appearing as Harry Bosch in the first season of Ballard, Titus Welliver is set to return in Ballard season 2 as well. The capacity in which he will return remains unknown. However, considering how Detective Renée Ballard serves as the main character of the Prime Video series, Bosch will likely again be more of a mentor figure for her and only show up briefly.
Although Ballard season 2 does not have a confirmed release date yet, it is expected to premiere later this year. This means that viewers will get to see Titus Welliver as Harry Bosch again very soon.
Titus Welliver’s Return In Spinoffs Means Bosch Never Truly Ended
When Bosch first ended on Prime Video after seven incredible seasons, it felt like the show was leaving a massive void in the crime thriller genre. Fortunately, Titus Welliver’s journey as Harry Bosch did not end there. The actor was back to play the character in the follow-up series, Bosch: Legacy. Unfortunately, Bosch: Legacy did not last as long as the main series, but it proved that the franchise was incomplete without Titus Welliver.
Owing to this, the Prime Video franchise found a way to accumulate him in Ballard‘s storyline as well and is now also bringing him back in its second installment.
The spotlight has certainly shifted away from the Titus Welliver character to Detective Ballard. However, his consistent return in every new installment of the franchise feels like a reminder that no matter how much the overarching world of the franchise expands, Harry Bosch remains its beating heart.
Bosch is still very well a major part of the franchise despite having smaller roles and serves as a solid connective tissue between the spinoff and the main series.
The Future Of The Bosch Franchise Is Still Bright
Even though Bosch ended after seven seasons in 2021 and its follow-up, Bosch: Legacy, struggled to last beyond three installments, the Prime Video franchise is still going strong. Like the parent series, Ballard season 1 did not disappoint and landed a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 100%. Even in season 2, it is expected to be no less incredible.
The Bosch franchise will soon expand with another exciting prequel series, titled Bosch: Start of Watch, which will follow a younger version of the Titus Welliver character. In the upcoming show, a younger version of Harry Bosch will be portrayed by Cameron Monaghan.
Since the series is a prequel, it seems unlikely that it will be able to fit Titus Welliver into its story. However, it still seems like a promising addition to the franchise, which will give a glimpse into everything from Bosch’s earliest days in the LAPD to the experiences and moral convictions that ultimately shaped him.
While Titus Welliver‘s absence will likely be felt in the upcoming Bosch prequel, the franchise’s future looks quite bright.
