Unfortunately, even if you already own them, booting the game up on the original hardware can be difficult and awkward given the changes in display technology over the last twenty years or so. So the best way to enjoy it moving forward would be if there was a handy PC port that brought Twilight Princess all the way forward into 2026, and what do you know, that’s about to become a reality.
Zelda: Twilight Princess Is Coming To PC
Over on YouTube, Video Game Esoterica shared extensive gameplay footage of Twilight Princess running on the PC, after the game was finally completely decompiled. If you aren’t familiar with what that means, it essentially means that the game’s machine code has been reverse-engineered and translated to C or C++, allowing it to be ported to the PC for the first time.
Though the game’s arrival on the platform is still in its very early stages, it looks very cool, and there’s a dedicated team working hard to get everything up to the same standard on the PC. The really astounding thing here is just how quickly they have been able to get it to this point, and the sky really is the limit from here on out.
To keep track of their progress, you can join the official Discord where the team posts regular updates about how far along they are, and there’s a very supportive community hanging out in there to boot. There are a ton of other games from the GameCube era getting the same treatment from other developers right now, and the comments couldn’t be more delighted.
“I’m so glad that Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, and Animal Crossing are the main targets for the first GameCube games to get PC ports
They are my fav GameCube games of all time and I can’t wait to finally see them be playable natively on PC,” one said.
“THANKS FOR THIS TO THE DEVELOPERS. With this, I will revive my playing of this game again. Maybe with Online Coop, my little brother will be able to play with me,” another added.
There’s No Limit To What Zelda Fans Can Do
The Legend of Zelda franchise is obviously still hugely popular, and fans of the series really have no limits to their creativity and prowess in bringing the classic titles from a bygone era to the PC. You should make sure you have a legitimate copy to keep everything above board before playing the port, but otherwise, it’s an amazing time to be a retro Nintendo fan.
