Playing through the Indiana Jones-esque adventures of Nathan Drake across four mainline games felt like being part of a real major movie experience, and it’s a crying shame that there have been no new entries into the series for the last ten years.
There hasn’t exactly been any official confirmation from developer Naughty Dog about whether they ever plan to bring it back, but new information has just come to light that could be enough to convince some that it’s going to return sooner than many may have expected.
Is Uncharted 5 Finally Coming?
Over on Reddit, one user shared a post from the ResetEra forums in which an eagle-eyed fan had noticed an Instagram post from Naughty Dog creative director and writer Shaun Escayg. In it, he posted a picture of what looks to be a Spanish cannon in a 17th century fort, simply captioned “research…”
It’s an intriguing tidbit, and it looks exactly like the kind of location that we had become very familiar with during our explorations in the Uncharted games. Combine that with Escayg’s history with the franchise and the fact that we know the developer is working on another unnamed single-player title, and all of a sudden we have quite a compelling case for Uncharted coming back.
The comments underneath the post were particularly excitable, with one saying, “THANK GOD! I mean, personally, I was hoping they would get back to TLOU since it’s been so long, but Uncharted was my second hope.”
“Uncharted is an IP I don’t mind getting more of, would be hard to be sick of it if they keep the quality up,” another added.
“I don’t care how in the minority I am. But I want it to be a Cassie Drake game. And I hope they can get Kaitlyn Dever to return!” a third said.
Will Nathan Drake Be The Star?
Despite how much we all may want it to be so, if Naughty Dog are making another Uncharted game then it likely won’t feature Nathan Drake as the star. In all likelihood, it could well be a follow-up to 2017’s Lost Legacy, particularly if the developer are keen to avoid not undermining the touching and complete ending of the fourth game.
