Veronica Remake Is Exactly What We Were Hoping For

Resident Evil: Code Veronica is a stone-cold classic. Released in 2000 for the Dreamcast (and later ported to other systems), it follows Claire Redfield after the events of Resident Evil 2. Given that Claire is a fan-favorite character, it’s considered one of the most memorable entries in the franchise, despite not being a “numbered” mainline entry.

Based on new information from famed Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem on X, the Code Veronica remake could end up being the best of the bunch.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica’s Remake Has Us Seriously Excited

There’s A Lot Of Potential Here

According to Dusk Golem, there will be substantial changes to Resident Evil: Code Veronica when it eventually launches. It’s allegedly “just a bit expanded,” with nothing cut, but some “heavily remixed” sections. Interestingly, this will be the first time young Chris has been seen in the new Resident Evil expanded-remake universe in earnest (which started with the RE2 remake), and, as a result, his role has been expanded in Code Veronica.

According to the leak, Chris will have a special boss fight with Wesker (to play up on their expanded rivalry that came to a head in Resident Evil 5) “much earlier in the story,” allowing Claire to take a bigger role and have more agency in the ending. When asked if Claire will get to fight the final boss of her own game, Dusk Golem responds, “She will,” giving fans hope on that front.

This would take care of two birds with one stone. Claire fans have always wanted her to take more control of her own game (where she played a more starring role than in RE2), and Chris fans have wanted to see him in action in the remake universe beyondResident Evil 7 and 8. If done correctly, it could be a really easy sell to fans and non-fans alike.

This Sounds Like The Perfect Resident Evil Remake

Claire Is Already Set Up In The Remake Continuity

There are plenty of Resident Evil games to remake to fit this new continuity Capcom is going for. We’re already hearing that the original Resident Evil will be remade again to that end, along with Resident Evil 0. Then we have many other story threads to touch on, such as Rosemary Winters, as well as everything that follows Resident Evil: Requiem.

Maybe we’ll get more hints about future Resident Evil releases in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem DLC, which is said to feature Leon prominently and potentially another shocking guest character. We’ll have to wait and see what Capcom has cooking, but so far, it sounds pretty great on paper.
