Virat Kohli is in his 19th season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is the first player to feature in all 19 seasons of the IPL, and that too for a single team. From achieving a record-breaking four centuries in a single IPL season to scoring 973 runs in 2016, Kohli has set several records in Royal Challengers Bengaluru colours. In a fun trivia video with RCB, Kohli was asked five questions about his IPL career. He got one wrong.
The question was, “How many runs did you score in the 2011 season?” Kohli replied 505; however, he scored 557 runs that season.

Kohli etched his name into the record books by becoming the first batter in the history of the Indian Premier League to cross 4,000 runs in run chases. The right-handed batter achieved this historic feat during the IPL 2026 opener between the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Additionally, Kohli also surpassed former Pakistan batter Shoaib Malik to become the sixth-highest run-getter in T20 cricket. Malik has scored 13,571 runs in T20 cricket across 557 matches and 515 innings. The former cricketer averaged 35.99 and registered 83 half-centuries in the shortest format.
Speaking on Star Sports, former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn spoke about Virat Kohli’s evolution as a batter.
“A lot of players, when they reach the level Virat Kohli is at right now, look to change their game by a couple of percentages. That is what Virat has been doing every IPL season. He looks for ways to improve himself, and the new improvement which he has made in his game is his six-hitting ability, which has increased over the last two seasons,” said Steyn.
“As a batter, it’s about recognizing a ball that you want to hit for a six. In the past, Virat had a set mindset of playing a particular shot. But now, his mentality has changed a lot after retiring from Test cricket. Virat is so good and backs himself so much that he is able to execute the aerial shots time and again. This just shows the class of the man,” he said.
