Mel, Jack, and the rest of the lovable residents of Virgin River will face challenges and triumphs as they enter new stages of life. Virgin River season 6 set up many storylines that will become the focus of season 7, such as Mel and Jack’s journey towards parenthood, Lizzie becoming a mother, and Muriel’s cancer.
However, these difficult times will also bring about some positive changes. Virgin River season 7 will give more time to a woefully neglected relationship between two of the show’s best characters.
Muriel & Hope Have Been Frenemies Since Virgin River Season 1
There aren’t many adversarial relationships in Virgin River, as most of the citizens get along well. Most of the conflict, like Calvin’s drug ring and Paige’s abusive ex, comes from outside the town. However, two major Virgin River characters haven’t been on the same page throughout most of the show: Hope and Muriel.
Muriel and Hope are polar opposites, which means they butt heads constantly. Hope gets tired of Muriel’s theatrical and over-the-top personality. Meanwhile, Muriel has very little in common with Hope. On top of that, Muriel was interested in Doc while he and Hope were separated.
However, not everything is terrible between them. They have had small friendly moments over the course of Virgin River seasons 1 through 6. Muriel helps Hope learn backgammon and supports Hope’s desire to keep her mayoral position. That being said, their relationship feels horribly neglected.
Hope & Muriel’s Relationship Has Been Mostly Overlooked
By the end of Virgin River season 6, Hope and Muriel are in a better place than they started out. The tension has mostly dissipated. That being said, their friendship feels stunted compared to other connections.
Even Brady, Jack, and Preacher, who were in a completely miserable place at the start, now have a decently strong relationship. Considering Hope and Muriel didn’t have nearly as much beef between them at the start, it would make sense for them to progress their friendship at a quicker pace than the Marine buddies.
Hope Will Support Muriel Through Her Cancer Diagnosis In Virgin River Season 7
Leading up to Virgin River season 7, Netflix has released photos of what’s to come, and it confirms that Hope and Muriel’s relationship will be stronger as Muriel copes with her cancer diagnosis. Considering Muriel was there for Hope through her TBI, it’s only appropriate that Hope return the favor.
In the photo, Muriel is wrapped in a blanket on the couch, and Hope is holding her, comforting her. There’s a sweet tenderness to their interaction that hasn’t really been shown before.
Muriel has shown warmth to Hope, but this is really a first in the other direction. Ultimately, the extra attention towards Muriel and Hope’s relationship is bound to make this one of the best seasons of Virgin River yet.
