Wait, is Marvel Secretly Teasing Miles Morales Becoming MCU Canon?

Bolstered by the highly popular Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales has endured as a popular iteration of Spider-Man. Debuting in Ultimate Fallout #4 (2011), Miles’ appearances in other media have since been legion, but he has yet to have one of the biggest breaks any comic book character can have: a live-action adaptation.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is currently scheduled to be released on June 18, 2027, and it has a Herculean feat ahead of it in wrapping what is anticipated to be one of the best superhero trilogies of all time. If its proposed title is anything to go by, we may see a live-action Miles Morales, possibly in the MCU, sooner rather than later.

‘Beyond’ the Spider-Verse May Be Literal

The naming conventions in Sony’s Spider-Verse movies have been succinctly true to the premise in each installment. For example, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces the Spider-Verse and flings some of its characters into it, while Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has characters traversing it.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, then, will be hurling characters ‘beyond’ the Spider-Verse, and a halfway decent guess as to what that could look like is a leap to live-action. It’s not as if this franchise hasn’t already had live-action elements, either, as it featured a Prowler played by Donald Glover and referenced live-action Spider-Man movies in its multiversal web.

Is Now the Time for Live-Action Miles Morales?

The short answer is: yes, Miles Morales in live-action is overdue. If Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will end the series, it would be devastating if Miles is shelved for the foreseeable future.

There’s no indication right now that Miles will be adapted into live-action any time soon, and yet ‘Beyond’ may be the most tangible evidence we have that it could be happening in a couple of summers. Of course, it’s possible that Miles could be adapted to either Sony’s Spider-Man universe or the MCU, though the character would have longer legs in the MCU.

It’d be fascinating to see who might be cast as Miles, whether they’re a known actor or not, and whatever age Miles is depicted as would determine how old the actor portraying him should be, as well. Nonetheless, whatever iteration of Miles follows the Spider-Verse movies will have enormous shoes to fill.
