Who Plays Martin Best’s Ex Dr. Montgomery On Best Medicine? Where You’ve Seen The Actress Before

WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT BEST MEDICINE SEASON 1!Best Medicine has introduced a new character, Dr. Eden Montgomery, a fertility specialist who Dr. Martin Best recommended to Louisa Gavin when she told him that she wanted to have a baby. Martin (Josh Charles) and Louisa (Abigail Spencer) have had a will-they-or-won’t-they romance since the series began. However, after they shared a passionate kiss, the perpetually awkward Martin made it seem as though he wasn’t interested in pursuing a relationship with Louisa in a misguided attempt to not force her into one.

Making things more complicated is Louisa’s decision to have a baby. Because of her age and the fact that she has a condition called hemachromatosis, which causes iron overload and requires bloodletting, Martin recommends that she see a fertility specialist named Dr. Eden Montgomery in Boston.

However, Louisa is shocked to find out from Dr. Montgomery that she’s Martin’s ex-girlfriend, who he dated in medical school and for a few years after. Dr. Montgomery told Louisa that it was surprising that Martin referred her to her because he left Boston so abruptly. She also asked if Martin was still single, stated that they were married to their careers, and told Louisa that she didn’t think that he ever got over her. Dr. Montgomery even referred to Martin as Marty.

Dr. Eden Montgomery Is Played By Eliza Coupe In Best Medicine

Best Medicine’s Dr. Eden Montgomery is played by Eliza Couple. Coupe was born and raised in Plymouth, New Hampshire, and was active in her high school theater program there. She graduated from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2006.

Where You’ve Seen Eliza Coupe Before

Before Best Medicine, Coupe had many TV and film roles through the years, but she’s best known for playing Jane Kerkovich-Williams in the ABC sitcom Happy Endings and its spin-off web series, Happy Endings: Happy Rides, and for portraying Denise “Jo” Mahoney” in the original run of Scrubs in seasons 8 and 9.

Coupe also starred as Tiger in the Hulu comedy series Future Man, Preggers in the Crackle sitcom Rob Riggle’s Ski Master Academy, Nina Whitley in the USA Network sitcom Benched, and had a recurring role as Hannah Wyland in the ABC drama Quantico. She also played Amy in the FOX sitcom Pivoting and lent her voice to the character of Katherine in the Netflix animated series, Haunted Hotel.

In addition to these main roles, Coupe has appeared in Samantha Who?, 12 Miles of Bad Road, The Millers, House of Lies, Casual, Superstore, The Mindy Project, Wrecked, So Help Me Todd, High Potential, The Residence, and The Hunting Party, among many others. Her first TV appearance was in 2006 in Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz.

Coupe has also appeared in several films, including The Day the World Saved Shane Sawyer, I Think I Love My Wife, Somewhere, What’s Your Number?, Shanghai Calling, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, The Last Time You Had Fun, It’s Us, The 4th, Naked, Making Babies, and The Estate.

What Dr. Eden Montgomery Means For Best Medicine

Fox’s Best Medicine Cast

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coupe will appear as Dr. Montgomery in the final two episodes of Best Medicine season 1. Described as the female version of Martin, with her intelligence and very blunt personality, she’ll arrive in Port Wenn not only to help her patient, Louisa, but to win Martin back. This, coupled with the fact that Dr. Montgomery is now Louisa’s doctor, and she told her that it was a good thing that she came to see her because her fertility window is closing, which means that she should become pregnant sooner than later, will definitely make things even more difficult for Louisa and Martin.

Although Martin and Louisa have experienced many obstacles to their romance, from his prickly personality to them not wanting to hurt her ex-boyfriend, Sheriff Mark Mylow (Josh Segarra), and the whole town meddling in their relationship, Dr. Montgomery might be the biggest one yet. She doesn’t seem as though she’ll give up until she gets her way, which could cause a rift between Martin and Louisa, whose relationship has been challenging from the start. It’ll be very intriguing to see how Dr. Montgomery shakes up Port Wenn in Best Medicine.

Best Medicine airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
