Paradise season 2 has been filled with numerous interesting stories, but much of the bunker’s conflict seems to stem from two characters: Jane and Sinatra. While Sinatra’s Alex project has been one of Paradise‘s biggest mysteries this season, we at least have an idea of her motivations and what she is trying to achieve, but Jane has been a wildcard.
Back in the first installment, she came across as a regular agent with a relatively innocent personality, yet as the season progressed, it became clear that Jane was far more sinister than she first seemed. Having killed her own boyfriend, she also shot Sinatra to stop her from spilling any secrets, but made sure the wound was non-lethal.
Jane then told Sinatra, “You’re no use to me if you’re dead“, yet continued working for the bunker’s leader after she woke from a coma, without ever explaining why. Fortunately, Jane’s backstory in Paradise season 2 helped us understand the villain better, whose true reason for serving Sinatra is the perfect mix of tragic and unhinged.
Jane Wants Sinatra Alive So She Has A Reason To Keep Killing
Of all the reasons Jane could’ve had for wanting Sinatra alive, it was hard to imagine her real motivation would be so simplistic, yet so twisted. Despite Sinatra claiming she didn’t remember what happened on the night she was shot, she eventually confronted Jane about her involvement, wanting to know why the assassin really wanted her alive.
Rather than being after control, power, or resources, Jane simply wanted Sinatra around so that she had a reason to keep killing. The villain’s backstory highlighted that Jane was destined to be a killer from the moment she was born, and her rough childhood resulted in her training as a special skills officer, which is where her violence began.
She was mentored by her superior, Stacy Thomas, who taught her how to remain composed in the face of danger and see things she previously wouldn’t have. This is where Jane’s attachment to authority started, as after Stacy was screwed out of a promotion, Jane went to extreme lengths to eliminate the competition. Very extreme lengths.
Sterling K. Brown’s (Xavier Collins) wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, plays Stacy Thomas in Paradise season 2, episode 6.
From here, Jane clearly saw herself as a weapon that just needed to be pointed, something she confesses to Sinatra. Therefore, if Sinatra were to die, Jane wouldn’t have a purpose anymore, and even if she were to continue killing, it’s possible she wouldn’t be fulfilled, as these acts of cruelty would have no reasoning behind them.
It’s safe to say Jane is a frightening serial killer and one of the show’s most dangerous characters, but she clearly doesn’t kill without direction. Even though she doesn’t personally care about Sinatra’s goals, she is determined to help her achieve them, and her unpredictable nature is one of many reasons Paradise season 2 is a must-watch masterpiece.
Gary Betrayed Xavier, But His Plan Backfired
While most of “Jane” centered around the bunker or took place in the past, Xavier’s search for his wife did get a huge update, as Paradise teased their reunion. Despite not fully trusting Gary — a stranger who claimed to know Teri — Xavier opted to take his word at the end of Paradise season 2, episode 5.
Having risked so much to find his wife, Xavier wasn’t about to quit now and had a plan to plant a bomb that would cause a massive distraction. Believing Teri was being held captive, he was then willing to kill anyone who got in his way if it meant freeing his partner, but Gary withheld some key information.
Rather than being a prisoner, it seems as though Teri actually joined this group willingly after Gary killed his best friend, and his betrayals didn’t stop there. Sensing an opportunity to take Xavier out of the picture and try his luck with Teri once more, Gary apologized and detonated the protagonist’s bomb early in the hopes of killing Xavier.
Fortunately, Paradise‘s leading man realized what was happening in the nick of time and threw the explosive just before it went off. He was injured in the blast, but as people from the community he intended to infiltrate came flooding towards his location, Teri emerged through the pack and recognized her husband instantly, just before the episode ended.
Although there may be anger about his attempted plan, Teri will likely stand up for Xavier and allow them to reunite properly. Meanwhile, Gary will almost certainly be left all alone, and after Xavier exposes what the former mailman tried to do to him, it looks unlikely that he’ll ever rekindle a friendship with Teri or his former allies.
Jeremy Is Finally Attempting To Escape Prison With The Help Of Robinson
After allowing himself to be arrested, Jeremy is not only trying to get out of the community’s underground prison, but he also wants to blow the bunker’s doors wide open. In season 2’s sixth episode, the former President’s son finally decided to make his move, convincing the bunker’s creator to assist him on his mission.
It took some effort, but Jeremy managed to learn about an unwelded manhole alongside what would cause the doors to open, and embarked on his escape with this unnamed man. However, as they attempted to make their way out, they were caught by a security guard, who was subsequently incapacitated by Robinson.
Having dismissed Jeremy’s plan earlier and seeing it as pointless, Robinson eventually decided it was worth helping when she realized Jeremy and the bunker’s creator were about to get caught. As much as she tried to make peace with the fact that Sinatra was unbeatable, she simply cared too much to sit aside without trying to make some change.
Robinson was already a major part of Xavier’s attempt to expose the truth in season 1, and now, with her and Jeremy on the same side, it looks as though a large section of Paradise season 2’s main cast is fighting back against the elite.
Where this attempted escape will lead is anyone’s guess, but if Jeremy is successful with his plan, it could be the beginning of Sinatra and Jane’s downfall, something Robinson will be all too keen to see happen.
Hadley Is Going Against Her Mother To Help Presley
Hadley has been a relatively insignificant character throughout Paradise‘s two seasons so far, but that all changed after Presley contacted her. With Xavier looking for Teri and Jeremy arrested, Presley has become desperate to get answers about what’s really going on, hence reaching out to Sinatra’s daughter.
Despite going to the same school, the two girls never really talked, but that didn’t stop the protagonist’s daughter from confronting Hadley in a diner and encouraging her to look into Sinatra. After doing so, Hadley proceeded to text Presley, claiming she knows where the prisoners are being sent and wants to help.
Assuming she’s true to her word, this puts even more pressure on Sinatra, as even her own daughter could be working against her. Likewise, if she were willing to speak up and tell the rest of Paradise‘s main community what is happening, it would be pretty damning for the antagonist, who would be forced to tell some version of the truth.
It’s hard to guess exactly what Presley will do with this information, as breaking into the prison seems nearly impossible, and won’t even matter since Jeremy is breaking out. Still, it’s another vital piece of information that could highlight Sinatra’s true colors, making this alliance one to keep an eye on.
What Gabriela Confronting Jane Means For The Remainder Of Paradise Season 2
Perhaps the most surprising part of “Jane” was Gabriela opting to confront the episode’s titular character. Following her conversation with Robinson, Gabriela became aware of just how dangerous Jane really was, but rather than staying away and quietly trying to find evidence against her, the therapist decided to tell Jane that she knew about the multiple murders.
It was a bold move, one that even Jane seemed bemused about as she calmly claimed, “If you know what I did, then you know what I’m capable of.” Surprisingly, Gabriela didn’t seem concerned, opting to try relating with Jane while warning her that she was going after Sinatra.
The assassin claimed this would mean going through her first, setting up a future collision between them. Of course, this puts Gabriela on Jane’s radar and could lead to her death, but choosing to confront a killer like this indicates that she may have an ace up her sleeve, potentially involving her recorded conversations with Sinatra.
Either way, Gabriela working against her former friend means that the walls continue to close around Sinatra, teasing a thrilling end to the season. With lives on the line, an empire at risk, and another catastrophe potentially on the way, it’s no surprise Hulu’s Paradise is a huge success in 2026, which this feud only adds to.
Whatever happens next, it won’t be good for Sinatra, who will only become even more desperate, meaning we may see Jane’s assassination skills becoming increasingly important as Paradise continues, making these final two episodes unmissable.
