Why Netflix’s New #1 Show Is Taking Over The World (From The Creators Of Stranger Things)

Stranger Things may have come to an end, but some of the creatives behind the series have found more success on Netflix with a brand-new hit show. Netflix is by far the biggest and most successful streaming platform on the planet, and one of the notable reasons behind its incredible success comes down to the variety of incredible original shows.

From true crime, to reality drama, and some of the best fantasy and fiction content currently on the air, Netflix has managed to get some of the best talent from around the world to create their projects expressly for their services. And as seen with shows like Stranger Things, some of these shows have the potential to go incredibly viral.

From the first season of Stranger Things, it was clear that it was a show audiences were enthralled by, with tense horror and thrills balanced out against the 1980s nostalgia, and all packaged up with incredibly talented young performers. And now, the executive producers behind Stranger Things have thrown their support behind a new Netflix series that has once again got imaginations running wild: Something Very Bad is Going to Happen.

What Is Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen About?

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, or SVB for short, is a psychological horror miniseries on Netflix about a young couple who are preparing to get married. In the week before the wedding, Nicky (Adam DiMarco) introduces Rachel (Camila Morrone) to his wealthy family, but things immediately begin to feel tense.

As Rachel gets closer to the family, things seem off in subtle yet important ways, and the eerie sense that something is wrong begins to build. Of course, as the title suggests, this tension and a sense of unease permeate throughout the whole show, which solidifies the choice of title in a significant way.

It’s difficult to describe any more about the series without giving away important details, but over the course of eight episodes, things get increasingly strange, and the events and the people in attendance are unraveled in a compelling way.

How Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen Is Different From Stranger Things

One of the greatest aspects of Stranger Things was the way the show built tension and mystery over the course of five seasons. While the execution of the fifth and final season has largely been picked apart and disparaged online, the show’s early run was a success for a reason. The atmosphere it created was immersive, and the promise of more to come was enticing.

In addition, Stranger Things was a series that stretched out the story across five seasons, which gave the creatives a lot of time to explore the characters and themes of the show, but also worked against them when things began to meander and lose focus. On the other hand, SVB is a succinct and complete story that is wrapped up after just eight episodes.

With that in mind, getting immersed in the wild and wacky world of these characters feels rewarding, and the show keeps a tight focus on the intended narrative. Sure, both overlap in areas of horror and possibly even some supernatural hijinks, but the horror delivered in both is very different.

While Stranger Things leans into nostalgia to strengthen the narrative, SVB creates a different foundation through a charming and engaging story. Both have strong character performances, but SVB also has a clear plan that never feels improvised or loose.

Ultimately, while both shows share some executive producer credits, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is a whole different type of show. It is fresh, creative, and incredibly addictive as the plot races towards an inevitable ending and provides several satisfying twists along the way. Netflix struck gold yet again, and it’s absolutely worth tuning in to see what all the buzz is about.
