X-Men Officially Unveils Emma Frost Jaw-Dropping New Codename And Costume

Marvel’s Emma Frost finally gets a brand-new costume and name alongside thirteen other X-Men mutant icons. Some mutants are more powerful than others, from civilians with an unfortunate set of rare skills to Omega-level mutant heroes and villains. Other mutants are more fashionable than others, from the rugged, tank-top wearing Wolverine and the perpetually naked Glob Hermann to Storm, who has gone through a long list of costumes and outfits that have become iconic on their own.

XA single costume change can signal a total transformation in a character’s story. Angel set the gold standard with his transition into the metallic, blue-skinned Archangel during Age of Apocalypse, and Rogue’s evolution from a hooded green-clad villain to the iconic 1990s X-Men powerhouse was perfectly symbolized by her outfit change. Beast also underwent a radical overhaul, going from a human-looking acrobat to a blue-furred feline. Jean Grey famously shed the dated Marvel Girl miniskirt for the cosmic majesty of the Phoenix, and Laura Kinney dropped her casual X-23 attire to take up the yellow-and-blue Wolverine mantle.

Even though the X-Men carry over three decades of real-life history on their shoulders, there’s still space for reinvention.

Emma Frost Officially Debuts Her New Costume And Name As ‘The Moon’

The X-Men’s Hellfire Gala returns with a brand-new concept for Marvel’s upcoming X-Men: Hellfire Murder. This year, the Hellfire Gala’s theme is a mutant masquerade that shakes up the attendees’ traditional appearances. X-Men: Hellfire Murder features groundbreaking costume and name reinventions such as Wolverine’s “The Wolf” look, Cyclops’ “The Hound” redesign, and Henrietta Benjamin’s “The Peacock” attire. Notably, Emma Frost changes her typical white outfit for an all-black dress and a half-moon mask.

As its name suggests, X-Men: Hellfire Murder presents a murder mystery plot that places the attending mutants in the role of a whodunnit. Each character is expected to play a Clue-like role in the investigation, which is led by Wolverine a.k.a. the Wolf and Jubilee a.k.a. the Star. Given that every confirmed mutant sports a drastically different look, it might be difficult to predict how the mystery will unfold just by judging their record.

Despite wearing the opposite color palette of her iconic outfit, a moon mask, and slicked back hair, Emma Frost is probably one of the most easily recognizable characters attending 2026’s Hellfire Gala. Other mutants are almost unidentifiable at first sight. For instance, Warren Worthington III aka Angel seems to be the one adopting “the Devil” mantle, while Jubilee eschews her vibrant yellow, pink, and blue scheme to take up Emma Frost’s colors (or lack thereof) as “the Star”.

Emma Frost Is Much More Than Her White Queen Persona

Emma Frost Is Too Stylish To Limit Herself To One Single Look

Emma Frost aka the White Queen shows off all her comic book looks in X-Men comic art

Emma Frost’s identity has always been inextricable from her wardrobe, but to pigeonhole her into her White Queen aesthetic is to ignore her full potential. Emma’s white corsetry and fur-lined capes project an image of cold, untouchable aristocracy and her prestigious status within the Hellfire Club. However, as Emma transitioned from a villainous headmistress to a leader of the X-Men, her clothing gained a new meaning. From the minimalist, X-branded crop-tops of the Grant Morrison era to the diamond-inspired gowns of the early Krakoan years, Emma Frost has curated her brand.

5 Marvel Characters Who Stole Emma Frost’s Classic Look

Here are the five Marvel characters who stole Emma Frost’s iconic costume and made it their own, from her older sister to several of her fellow X-Men.

Although Emma Frost’s white attire is iconic, restraining her to a single look would be a disservice to a character who views her appearance as a telepathic projection of authority. Emma is a particularly stylish mutant, despite her limited color palette. The X-Men’s Hellfire Galas have allowed her to experiment with avant-garde outfits that have even integrated her mutant powers as an accessory. The All-New, All-Different era of the X-Men saw Emma mourn Cyclops by becoming the black-clad Black Queen, a look that has rarely returned.

The 2026 Hellfire Gala introduces Emma Frost’s Moon redesign, with a stunning, all-black ensemble. This inverted look, complete with celestial motifs and a half-mask, suggests a transition from the public face of Krakoan diplomacy to the shadow-ruler of the mutant world by shedding the white that has accompanied her for nearly fifty years. At least for the following Hellfire Galas, it would be interesting to see Emma rock outfits in all colors.
