Another remarkable title that has already joined the catalog as part of Wave 2 is an indie RPG. On March 19, Disco Elysium joined Xbox Game Pass. Members of the Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass tiers now have access to what is considered one of the best RPGs of all time. However, looking a bit further down the line, there is another RPG that members should be excited about.
Final Fantasy 4 Joins The Xbox Game Pass Catalog For Free
The Classic RPG Arrives In Early April
As part of the announcements of March’s Wave 2 games, Microsoft also revealed some of the first April titles for Xbox Game Pass. On April 7, Final Fantasy 4 will join the Xbox Game Pass catalog. The game will be made available for members of the Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass tiers, with only the Essential tier left out of the benefit. With this, FF4 will be playable on Xbox Series X/S consoles, PC, and via cloud gaming.
In the fourth main entry in the classic RPG series by Square Enix, you’ll control iconic characters like Cecil, the Dark Knight, Rosa, the White Mage, Rydia, the Summoner, and Kain, the Dragoon. The characters assemble to face the Kingdom of Baron, which is assaulting neighboring countries. If the game follows the behavior of other titles on Xbox Game Pass, it should remain available in the catalog for at least a year.
Game Pass Has Been Getting Free Final Fantasy Games Since January
Play The First Four Titles In The Series For Free
Since January this year, Microsoft has been steadily adding Final Fantasy games to the catalog for free. In January, the original Final Fantasy was added to the subscription service, followed by Final Fantasy 2 in February. In March, Xbox Game Pass received Final Fantasy 3, and now the sequence is being completed by Final Fantasy 4 in April.
It’s unclear if Microsoft will continue doing this or if it will be limited to the pixel-era games, which end with Final Fantasy 6, considered the best Final Fantasy game from that period. Even so, these are all major additions that fans shouldn’t skip, if they haven’t played them before.
With its ensemble of characters, story arc, and the introduction of the legendary ATB (Active Time Battle) system, Final Fantasy 4 is considered one of the best pixel-era installments, second only to FF6. Be sure to mark your calendar for when this classic RPG arrives on Xbox Game Pass to experience it in all its glory.
