Xbox Is Moving Away From The Xbox One
With the Xbox One being a decade old, it is perhaps no surprise that Microsoft is beginning to cease support for it, especially as supporting an older-gen console adds a lot more unnecessary costs. That is most definitely the case for Playground Games, the studio behind the beloved Forza Horizon franchise. With the upcoming installment, Forza Horizon 6, expected to offer players post-launch support such as expansions, seasonal content, and various updates, a statement by the studio reveals that it will be leaving Xbox One behind in an attempt to “free our hands a little bit.”
Speaking over on IGN First, due to its most recent Forza Horizon entries evolving over time, Playground Games has to think about the future, and has decided that supporting the Xbox One will no longer be beneficial.
“We’ve carried forward that technology to the next game, I feel that [live service] was one of the best investments that we made with Horizon 5 – and we’ve gone to some lengths to ensure we can do a bit more with that this time around as well.
Moving forward from the Xbox One generation of consoles has kind of freed our hands a little bit there, to give us some more potential. We’ve learned how to celebrate key moments through the year based on the previous game, and we definitely look forward to exploring those opportunities through the live program on Horizon 6 as well.”
The Xbox One Had A Great Run
So it seems as though Forza Horizon will be the first major franchise to cease Xbox One support, but there is no denying that the Xbox console has had one hell of a run. Since its launch back in 2013, the Xbox One has welcomed some major hits, such as Grand Theft Auto V, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Call Of Duty: Black Ops III, Call Of Duty: WWII, and many more. Praised for its controller design and multimedia features, the Xbox One will no doubt go down in history, but for now, it may almost be time to add it to the graveyard of last-gen consoles.
