Young Sherlock Star With A James Bond Connection Wants To Play Denis Villeneuve’s 007

Hero Fiennes Tiffin has starred in all five of the films in the After series, appeared in the Harry Potter franchise as a young Tom Riddle, and most recently held the title of Sherlock Holmes in the television series Young Sherlock. Still, the 28-year-old has his sights set on one of the longest-running franchises out there — James Bond.

In a recent interview with Square Mile, Tiffin revealed that he’s considering taking on the iconic role of 007, but he has considered that audiences might not appreciate seeing the same actor portraying Sherlock and Bond. He said, “Would that be a bit selfish, though? Would it be unfair to have both Sherlock and James Bond?”

Since they are both widely known and beloved characters as well as two British roles, the actor asked himself, “I wonder whether or not, as a viewer, I’d want that.” Although it would be a dream for him to play both characters, he wonders “if having both would be fair.“

This type of internal reflection draws a direct line from Tiffin to Sherlock, as that is the type of overanalyzing the detective is known for. He wouldn’t be the first actor to take the leading role in multiple major franchises. Henry Cavill has also played Sherlock, but he is known around the world for his portrayal of Superman, and he took the leading role of The Witcher.

When reminded of the Sherlock actor who came before him, Tiffin said:

My agents are probably listening to this interview and thinking: ‘What are you doing? Just shut up and say yes.’ So yes, I’d love to do it if it was being offered. Henry would have been great, too. He’s such a quintessential British gentleman. But that’s me off on a tangent. We love Henry Cavill, he’d have been a brilliant Bond. But if it was coming my way? Yes, I would love to play James Bond.

Since the death of Daniel Craig’s Bond, Amazon MGM Studios has taken control over the future of the franchise. Casting for the film has not been announced, but Bond will likely be recast by the end of the year, and production is expected to begin in 2027. Denis Villeneuve will be directing the film, but the timeline for the new Bond movie is dependent on the completion of Dune: Part Three​​​​​​, which is also being directed by Villeneuve.

Tiffin has a direct line to the upcoming Bond films since Young Sherlock premiered on Amazon Prime Video, and the next James Bond movies will come from Amazon MGM Studios. Hopefully, an audition will be in his future, but nothing has been confirmed.

The new Sherlock series premiered on March 4, 2026. Guy Ritchie, who led the charge of Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes films, was the director of this fresh and updated version of the Arthur Conan Doyle character. In this series, Sherlock is just starting his career as a detective, and he’s already made a name for himself due to his impressive mind and unusual skills. Tiffin stars alongside Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, Natascha McElhone as Cordelia Holmes, and Zine Tseng as Princess Gulun Shou’an.

The show had a respectable 84% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of publication, but it has not been green-lit for a second season. All eight episodes of Young Sherlock are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
